2 Announcements to Pass Along!
We are excited about several things that are happening in and around McHenry FBC these days, but need to take a minute and pass along information on a couple of those to you!
First, "Making Peace with Your Past" is coming, and is sure to be a tremendous small-group study that can bring healing to wounds that have festered for many years! This is a support-group study that offers practical, biblically-based guidance to lead adults to identify, understand, and come to terms with the feelings and problems they may have faced and dealt with along life's path. Mrs. Elizabeth Sumner will facilitate the sessions, and wants to invite all who want to participate to join in! There is a member booklet that you will need, so please contact Mrs. Elizabeth as soon as possible for any details, if you would like to participate. She can be reached at 601-716-5012, or by email at essumner@mchenryfbc.com if you wish.
Second, we are even more excited that the directory is already back! Olan Mills corrected the errors, and have already shipped them back to us! Everybody that had their picture taken by Olan Mills will recieve a copy of the directory, and there are a few extras for our newest members to have. After everyone gets one, any extras will be available for anyone who wants one! I know this has been a less-than-desireable process, but we finally have it in hand! Our goal is to do a new directory every 2 to 3 years, and furutre editions will NOT take a year to get! God bless you, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday morning!
"WISE LIVES" on Wednesday Evenings
We have just begun a new Wednesday evening study here at McHenry, geared toward helping Christians delve deeper into scripture and growing closer to the Lord. This study will focus on Proverbs, and is called "Wise Lives", as we take the book chapter by chapter, and verse by verse.
"What an exciting and revealing study!" was but one comment thus far, and all those attending seem to be really getting into this study. To just "read" the scripture is to rob yourself of real treasure! You should "explore" and dig deeper into it, and when you do, more and more is revealed! It is always exciting to gather together and share God's word, but to truly gain understanding and wisdom, you still have to get alone with God, and allow Him to teach you.
Our group on Wednesday evenings would like to invite YOU and your friends to join us for "Wise Lives" on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM!
CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICES
McHenry FBC has elected not to have a regular scheduled AM service on Christmas day, but to have a PM service with Candelight Communion, and fellowship afterward. This will allow families to celebrate Christmas together, and to have dinner as a family as well, and then join us for the evening service. We do hope that everyone will join us for the Lord's Supper, and stick around for Jesus' birthday cake and coffee!
With that said, there are a couple of things to mention. The Men's Sunday School class will be meeting at 10:00 AM on Christmas morning, as will Mrs. Anita's class. If those who come, together with any others that may join us want to have a service, then we can move right on into the sanctuary, and have church! I am always eager to come together, and worship the Lord, so join us SUnday morning at 10! - Bro. Wayne
ANGEL TREE 2011 A HUGE SUCCESS!
Thanks to the blessing of the Lord, working through His people here at McHenry, 31 "angels" recieved gifts this year through our annual "Angel Tree Outreach"! We are excited to reach out and help in as many ways as we can, and help meet the needs of those less fortunate. In addition to the angels, we recieved several calls for assistance just this week, and with even more blessings, we were able to reach out there as well! The Wiggins Police Dept.'s annual "Cops for Kids" toy drive wasso successful, they were able to provide some toys to meet even more needs! In addition to the angels, we were able to assist at least 17 more children, and 2 families! God is so good, and He provides. We have but to trust Him.
God will bless you, if you will only allow Him to do so. These blessing come in ways that may not seem evident at first, but through your faith and trust in Him, "great and mighty things which you do not know" can, and will happen! Our prayer at McHenry FBC is for a MERRY CHRISTMAS for everyone, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and savior! Remember that HE IS the reason for the season, and have a BLESSED NEW YEAR as well!
Dr. Church Kelley to speak at McHenry on Nov. 30th!
We are so excited to announce that Dr. Chuck Kelley, President of NOBTS, will be with us at McHenry on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM! Dr. Kelley authored a small booklet entitled "Learning to Share My Faith" back in 1984, and it was in it's 9th printing in July of 2008. We have been using this booklet as a guide fr our Wednesday evening study for the past couple of months, and Dr. Kelley will come Wednesday evening to share more about the booklet, and encourage us all to share our faith! Please join us on Wednesday evening, November 30th, at 7pm, for Dr. Chuch Kelley!
McHenry FBC sets NEW RECORD for OCC Shoeboxes!
McHenry has participated in the annual OCC shoebox drive for 5 years now. In that time, we have set achievable goals, and each year exceeded them. This year, Samaritan's Purse, which is the OCC parent organization, decided to offer pre-made boxes, and that is sure to be a huge success! At McHenry, we more than doubled the efforts of any previous year, and more of the same results are being reported all around South MS!
Last Sunday was the collection day set here at our church. Our initial goal was 100 boxes, up 30 from our 2010 goal of 70. Gracie Flurry, OCC Coordinator for the church, decided to set our goal higher this year, due to the boxes that were provided at the kick-off event. Each shurch was given 40 boxes, and more were available for purchase. The church purchased 100 additional boxes, as did one other member of the church, Bro. George Surman. We gave the additional 40 we had to a couple of other churches as well, plus George made some available to those who didn;t get a box. In all, McHenry FBC collected and sent 159 total boxes this year! We are so thankful for everyone who made a box, or boxes to send, and ask that everyone please pray for these seeds of the gospe, as they embark on their journey to children around the globel!
McHENRY FBC SENT 159 OCC SHOEBOXES THIS YEAR! PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS GOODNESS< AND PRAY FOR THOSE "SEEDS" OF THE GOSPEL AS THE GO AROUND THE WORLD!
Music & Worship Pastor to Start Sunday, Nov. 13th!
Rev. David Sumner, the new Music & Worship Pastor here at McHenry FBC, will begin his ministry here on Sunday morning, Nov. 13th! Please join us as we welcome Bro. David, and his wife, Elizabeth to the family of God here at McHenry!
Over the past 2 days, the Sumner's and several volunteers from the church have unloaded all their belongings at the parsonage. They will spend the next few days getting settled in, and possibly having a yard sale as well in the coming days. You never really know how much you have until you move, and the Sumner's learned a lot this week! Thanks to all those who helped, making this transition as easy as possible. The ladies of the church also brought supper to them Wednesday evening, and the church family gave them a welcome card, along with a gift to purchase groceries and household good they might need. We praise the Lord for His direction and guidance through this process, and look forward to what God will do through the music ministry here at McHenry under Bro. David's guidance!
Rev. David & Elizabeth Sumner
NEW MUSIC & WORSHIP PASTOR CALLED!
After a couple of months of diligent prayerful evaluation of several resumes, the Lord has brought His person to McHenry to be our Music & Worship Pastor! Rev. David Sumner, who was currently serving at Noxapater Baptist Church, was selected by our search team, and interviewed for the position. One member of our team commented that "I knew it was him when he opened the service." The team met and discussed the candidates, and unanimously voted to have him come to McHenry in view of a call. He did so, and was called by the church on Sunday, October 16th.
Bro. David was ordained on April 15, 1973, and has over 30 years of ministry experience. He recieved a Masters of Education / Music from Delta State University, and comes from Noxapater Baptist Church where he and his wife Elizabeth have served since March of 1995. They have been married for 39 years, and have 2 children. Elizabeth is a retired school teacher, and both are eager to get to McHenry.
Bro. David will be moving the week of November 7th, with his first service at McHenry on November 13th. We are all looking forward to that day, and invite everyone to come celebrate with us, as we welcome Bro. David and Elizabeth to McHenry!
ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK is ready for you!
A brand new ministry outreach is up and running, with the addition of "ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK" to our website! It is a question and answer forum, allowing anyone to post a question, and get answers from our pastor, Rev. Wayne Flurry. So, click on the "Ask, Seek, and Knock" link on the left, and you will be all set! Just remember, this is a PUBLIC forum, so please keep the language and questions to a "G" rated level! Thanks, and God bless you all!
McHenry FBC Receives first CSFP Shipment!

Fund Started for New Church Van!
When we look around, we often see things that we want, or would like to have. Mixed among those are some things that we need, and if we just continue to look at it and say "We need that...", and never take any action toward making it happen, chances are you will still be just wanting it for years to come. It is time to take action on a need here at McHenry FBC! We desperately need another van, and we have started a fund to work toward getting one.
A new van would help our church in so many ways, especially in the Youth Ministries. When our young people want to go somewhaer as a group, the one van we have is not enough, and we have to rent a second van, or get many parents to drive along with them. If our adults wanted to go somewhere as a group...same thing. The van we do have is only a 12 passenger, and it simply is not enough. We can purchase a great, used E350 15-passenger van for around $18,000.00, with very low miles, and in great condition. So, we have established a fund where folks can start to donate toward making a new van a reality. Pray for us, as we seek the Lord and His desires for McHenry through a new van for our many ministries. If you would like to give to this fund, you may do so by designating it for that purpose, and give at any offering, or sending it by mail. Either way, it will be set aside for that purpose. God bless you!
This is a simple Thermometer Chart, which will allow all to see the progress toward the purchase of a new van. Our goal is listed at $18,000, which will be more than enough to purchase a good, used E350 van in great condition, and with low mileage. Please pray for the Lord's guidance and provision through this process, and for His will to be done here at McHenry FBC!
Statewide PRAYER Emphasis in 2011
The Mississippi Baptist Convention is moving forward with it's state-wide emphasis to cover our state with prayer every day in 2011. Special pins and committment cards were ordered for those who would commit to praying for 3 things before 8 AM every day, those being Self, Servants, and Souls. Pray for yourSELF, that you would totally submit to being used of God however He need's you each and every day, and that other Christians around you, in your family, church, community, school or workplace, and other places would do the same. Then, pray for those SERVANTS, of which you are a vital part, that they would be faithfully obedient to the Lord no matter what the call He places on their hearts. And finally, pray for each of the SOULS that the Lord will place before you that day, and ask Him to show you even more souls to reach out to! Can you imagine what will happen if each person who commits to this emphasis, would stick to that committment each and every day this year!? The initial plan was to seek 10,000 people to participate, but the Lord has blessed and multiplied that already! To date, over 25,000 pins have been ordered and distributed, with even more to come!
