Our pastor is Rev. Wayne Flurry, a McHenry native, and member of McHenry FBC since 1984. A 1982 graduate of Stone High School, Bro. Wayne attended MGCCC, where he graduated in 1986. He moved to Hattiesburg and attended USM, where he met and married Gracie King of Petal in December 1987. Together they have 3 wonderful children: Kirsten, Allan, and Ian. He and his family returned to McHenry in 2004, and has both attended and served McHenry since. Responding to God's call in September 2004, Bro. Wayne was licensed to the gospel ministry by the church. He served as Associate Pastor in 2005, and was ordained in February 2006. Having filled the pulpit vacancy since December 2005, Bro. Wayne was formally called as our full time pastor on April 9th, 2006. This is his first pastorate, however Bro. Wayne has other part-time responsibilities as well, such as Chaplain for the Wiggins and McHenry fire departments, and Stone County's Deputy Coroner. He is also a member and active supporter of the Stone County Ministerial Association. In July 2009, they were blessed with their first grandchild, Nolan Winston. He plans to complete his BS degree at Leavell College in the future, and pursue further education at NOBTS.
Minister of Music & Worship - Rev. David E. Sumner
Bro. David and Elizabeth, his wife of 39 years, will begin their ministry here at McHenry on Sunday, November 13th, 2011. Bro. David comes from Noxapater Baptist Church, where he has served for the past 17 years. He holds a Masters of Education / Music from Delta State University. Bro. David has served in the ministry since 1972, where he began as Minister of Music, Youth, and Education at Calvary Baptist Church in Cleveland, MS, and was ordained on April 15, 1973 there. Sis. Elizabeth has been active in the ministry with him every step of the way, and spent her career as a teacher in the public school system. Together, they have 2 children, Dawn and Oakley. They have a heart for senior adults as well, and will prayerfully be an asset to McHenry FBC in that area as well.
